Pirate Treasure and Other Goodness!

In the Web department, I have been going through a study on 2 Corinthians that Bro KP did in the UK a few years ago so that I can edit them.  I’m learning a lot while listening, and it’s rather interesting what they have to say.  One of the topics was about money and financial investment in Heaven.  And I had the thought:

Storing up our treasures in Heaven.  I used to think of actual treasures… like gold, mansions and things that pirates would steal, but I think about it, the most rewarding treasure that I could receive when I get to Heaven is seeing all the lost souls that were impacted by my life in service to God. Worshiping God with them for eternity. That’s the kind of treasure I would like.

Anyway… just food for thought. 🙂

I’m Ba-aack

It’s been a busy few months!  Between School of Discipleship graduation,  a support trip back home, training for my new job, and new staff classes just beginning, I have definitely been learning a lot about dependence on the Lord.

I find my self becoming easily stressed out and overwhelmed when I have so many things going on that I fail to even look to God for any help or answers.  I tend to start becoming so busy that I no longer even make time for daily devotions to seek the Lord and look for His hand in these things.

I realized this is where I was a little over a month ago as I sat listening to a sermon about spiritual maturity.  The basic message was that when we fail, the main sign of spiritual maturity is to run TO the Lord and the main sign of spiritual immaturity is to run AWAY from Him.  I was able to fairly easily  recognize myself in the latter.  That realization was huge for me because it brought me running back to the Lord and rediscovering the rest that He offers.

So rather than trying to balance a thousand things during the day and then just coming back to the apartment to veg and watch TV, I am now striving to go before the Lord with my free time and be filled with His peace that He truly is sovereign and all these things I am worried about and dealing with are under His control.  I like that.

God Does Not Waste Circumstances

Danny shared tonight on Romans 8:29 which say’s; God uses all things for the good of those who love Him. Danny then closed with a saying that he got from his mother, “God does not waste any opportunity in our life.” Those are very true words.

A couple months ago I was spending some time with one of my friends who is not a believer, and he was telling me some things that he regretted; Things that he could have done better in his life. I listened and then after some time I told him that I do not regret a single thing in my life. He said, “You know most people would call you a liar if you said that.” It is probably what he thought too, but just wanted to say it in a nice way.

After Danny spoke it brought that back up to mind, and I began to ponder. Is it true that we can go through life without regrets? Biblically I am sure we can. So then my next question was, why is that?

I think it is because God loves us and He does not waste opportunities. Everything He does is used to mold and shape us into the image of His Son. For me, I now look back to all those years in which I was living for myself. I remember how hopeless and empty it was, so now that gives me a drive and a desire to seek God, and His best for me, no matter what it takes or where it takes me. God used those precious years in my life to make me into the man I am today. If it was not for those things that He led me through, then I would not be here today. It matters not how it happened, nor how long it takes, only that in the end of it all we come to know God and love God. If I lived the worst possible life imagined but yet at the end of it all came to a saving knowledge of Christ it all would have been worth it. Only those that don’t know Christ will have regrets on that faithful day when He calls us home.

So now, let us throw down every hindrance and run the race that is set before us with all diligence because the things in this life are meaningless compared to the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord.

What a Patient Shepherd

Today I walked into the auditorium at the office expecting to hear a spectacular message from another impacting speaker. But what I didn’t expect about this particular message was for it to impact my heart and my passion for the lost world all at the same time. At one in the afternoon today, I sat among the Gospel For Asia staff listening to Dr. Stuart Briscoe teach on Acts 1:1-11.  Taking place during the 40 days that Jesus was addressing the apostles and people gathered there after He had risen from the dead and before He ascended into Heaven.

Now, this is a story that I had read multiple times before, went over it in church on Sunday, and in my personal devotion times, but for some reason, when Dr. Briscoe was teaching, it clicked.  Jesus stayed here on earth after He rose again so that He could explain some things to the apostles.

1. He made sure that they fully understood His resurrection.

2. He made sure that they fully grasped the Kingdom.

3. He made sure they were clear on the subject of the Holy Spirit.

4. He made sure they understood their mission.

The cool thing about this is that, that message isn’t only for the apostles, but for us as Christians. How awesome that Christ would make sure we would understand those four things, incase any of us were wondering? I know I was inspired to live my life more fully for what Christ did, and to share with all that I can of His glory.

Praise God for all that He’s done!  I’m excited to fulfill His great commission, and I’m super excited to see how He fulfills that in each of you!
