What a Patient Shepherd

Today I walked into the auditorium at the office expecting to hear a spectacular message from another impacting speaker. But what I didn’t expect about this particular message was for it to impact my heart and my passion for the lost world all at the same time. At one in the afternoon today, I sat among the Gospel For Asia staff listening to Dr. Stuart Briscoe teach on Acts 1:1-11.  Taking place during the 40 days that Jesus was addressing the apostles and people gathered there after He had risen from the dead and before He ascended into Heaven.

Now, this is a story that I had read multiple times before, went over it in church on Sunday, and in my personal devotion times, but for some reason, when Dr. Briscoe was teaching, it clicked.  Jesus stayed here on earth after He rose again so that He could explain some things to the apostles.

1. He made sure that they fully understood His resurrection.

2. He made sure that they fully grasped the Kingdom.

3. He made sure they were clear on the subject of the Holy Spirit.

4. He made sure they understood their mission.

The cool thing about this is that, that message isn’t only for the apostles, but for us as Christians. How awesome that Christ would make sure we would understand those four things, incase any of us were wondering? I know I was inspired to live my life more fully for what Christ did, and to share with all that I can of His glory.

Praise God for all that He’s done!  I’m excited to fulfill His great commission, and I’m super excited to see how He fulfills that in each of you!

Texas ain’t that cold!!!

So I learned two things yesterday.  One, running was created as the worst kind of torture—fact.  But two, and this is really the purpose of blogging here today, I am a very material centered person.  Now I guess these are both things I have “known” before, but yesterday really just confirmed them.

See, yesterday afternoon I decided that when I went home then I would try to be productive and clear out a lot of my things that I don’t need.  The whole idea of trying to simplify my life with all the clutter of stuff so that I wouldn’t be distracted by them anymore so that I would be more free to focus on God was an appealing and logical idea that I wished to pursue.

HOWEVER, this task took a lot more effort then I had anticipated.  I was pulling out clothes I haven’t worn in forever, and realistically I forgot I even had them and yet I was extremely hesitant to give them away.  But why is that??  I kept thinking of reasons to hold on to my 4th long sleeved black shirt (what if I need to go painting and some of the paint spills on my other 3?).  really? that was my excuse?

And after much clinging and some relinquishing, I did manage to collect one large bag of clothes but I held on to a lot more then was necessary I’m sure.  Maybe in the next couple months I will go for a take two and try again, cause who really needs eight hoodies?  Texas isn’t THAT cold…

Unpacking my Faith

In our classes we have been going through a unit on witnessing.  The teachers gave us really good ideas and resources on how to share your faith.  Yesterday, I felt the Lord leading me to share the gospel with one of the delivery drivers who picks up mail from Gospel For Asia.

At first it was really casual and then I started to tell him a few stores from my trip to India.  From there, I began sharing the Gospel with him along with a few verses that the Lord had put on my heart to share with him.  It worked out pretty good, I think. He was very thankful and took it well.  Praise the Lord!  Now it’s up to the Lord to water the seed He planted through my witness.

The next time he comes, I am going to ask him if he as a Bible and if he doesn’t I am going to give him a Gospel of John.  I want to thank my teachers for all your tips and encouragement, it is very helpful. I hope this has encouraged you.

God bless you!

Flying Monkeys

Many funny things happen in the Volunteer department. One of my highlights was having a screaming monkey flying at me when I wasn’t expecting it.  I fell out of my chair, my heart skipped a few beats, and they called it my initiation to the Volunteer department.

Hello, hello…?!

I work out at front desk at the end of everyday. And that requires me to bring my headset from my office. Because this requires so many steps I sometimes forget to plug my headset in after getting to the front desk. On this particular afternoon that exact thing happened. Only this time I didn’t catch it before I answered the beckoning phone.

Gospel for Asia how may I help u……..Hello……hello??……….”

Silence.

Eventually I realized my headset was not plugged in and talked to the lady on the other end. After I finished talking with the lady, I laughed about the whole situation.

Burning the Midnight Oil

The first Friday of every month, here at Gospel For Asia, there is a late night prayer session. What an awesome time of fellowship and intercession for the Lost. From 6:30pm-2:00am we gather in the auditorium and we pray, worship, and hear a message from God’s word; followed with a break half way through to eat some amazing food, then continue to intercede for the lost.
