School of Discipleship theme song!

“Lay Me Down” by Chris Tomlin has been like the theme song of the 2013 January class of School of Discipleship. At the beginning of the year we all went to different churches together and almost every Sunday we heard this song playing. Either we would sing it in the service, hear it playing after the service, or someone had it in their head and was singing it.

At first, we just thought it was a great song. I had never even heard it before coming to the School of Discipleship. Then, as we continued to hear it we figured maybe God was speaking to us through it. After hearing/ singing it over and over and over again, I thought, “Hey – this could be our theme song!”

The whole song talks about giving up all we are for the Lord to use however He chooses. The motto for School of Discipleship is “Can you die to yourself for one year?” I think this song is the answer to that question. Not only does this song talk about laying our lives down for Christ, but it says “It will be my joy to say, Your will, Your way, ALWAYS!” Those are some pretty powerful words and they have challenged me a lot. Am I willing to joyfully lay down my entire life and say “Lord, whatever You want me to do and wherever You want me to go, my answer will always be, yes Lord, send me?”

This is what Jesus Christ, the Son of God, did for me and you. What choice do we have, but to give it back and die for Him. He has promised the greatest reward if we do. Praise the Lord for salvation and the sacrifice of Jesus’ blood on that cruel cross.

May our prayer be, “I lay me down, I’m not my own, I belong to you alone, lay me down, lay me down. Take this life and let it shine, lay me down, lay me down, Jesus.”  – Chris Tomlin

A Chat With My Friend

I had an “aha moment” just now as I was listening to my current favorite song “How He Loves” by John Mark Mcmillan, while chatting with a friend of mine about how we are trusting God for the future instead of us trying to manipulate circumstances so they work out how we want them, instead of how God wants them.

This is what I sent him:

– It’s crazy that EVERYTHING in our lives was planned out to perfection before we were even born.

– That God planned what we would learn, how we would learn it, and when would learn to apply it.

– Meaning that everything that happened before we learned the truth, before it finally “clicked” was His plan as well.

– That those experiences are what brought us to the realization of His Truth in this very moment.

– Just like everything we are learning now is for preparation for what’s in store for us in the future.

– Everything is timed perfectly.

– So perfectly in fact that we often times miss it.

– We miss what He is doing and has done until He points it out to us.

– And it’s all so that we can know how much He loves us. All so that we can then turn and give glory to Him for working the good in our lives amidst all the bad that we perceived as bad, which was actually for out ultimate good.

Isn’t that crazy? God is so good. Anyway… that was my Aha moment.

35,768 Feet Deep

The Mariana Trench is 1,580 miles long and at one point called the Challenger Deep reaches down 35,768 ft.

That is the deepest known point of the ocean. It was on Sunday that my thoughts took a turn towards the vast  H2O that takes up most of our Earth’s surface.

In church we sang Matt Redman’s ” You Alone Can Rescue”  One part of the songs says

“Who, oh Lord, could save themselves,
Their own soul could heal?
Our shame was deeper than the sea
Your grace is deeper still”

It was the perfect picture of God’s love.  It goes further than our minds can even fathom.

What’s more it is not a pathetic ‘hugs and kisses’ love purely sentimental. It is passionate and all consuming.

It is because of His love that He sent His Son to the cross. I too often forget all of this .

Thank You Lord for your Love!

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace
John Newton
(1725-1807)

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T’was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
‘Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we’ve been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’ve first begun.*
