How to Get Lost While Doing Evangelism

Like one of my fellow students posted about earlier, we had the opportunity to go evangelizing in a park not too long ago.  We went two by two, and trusting in the Lord to direct our paths.  This time, I decided to take my guitar along with me so that I could play it and draw people over towards me and my partner, and then we could engage them in conversations. Anyway, we got dropped off at this park, I was partnered with another fellow student, and we decided to go walk down the path to see if there were any people there.  First, we see this older gentleman with a dog. He rejected the tract.  So, our number one attempt was a fail, but hey, at least he knows we cared enough about him to try. So I’ll take it as a win in my book.

After that we decided to go by the entrance to the park to sit on the bench and I’d try my guitar tactic.  It didn’t work…and it was a little awkward to be playing my guitar when there was a tennis court right behind us.  So I packed up and we went walking again.  The next three opportunities were a success, the people took the tracts!  Praise God! Now that we had some successes, we decided to walk through the neighborhood to see if there was anyone outside their houses in the Texas heat.

We got a tad lost…so we headed in the general direction we thought the park was after no success with the neighborhood.  When we were nearing the park, we saw a group of teens hanging out with a video camera.  So we went up to them and started talking to them.  It was a great conversation.  After a while we got the chance to share about the School of Discipleship with them, and about India, and about Gospel for Asia.  At the end, we gave them two free books and headed back to our rendezvous point so that we could go home.

This whole experience was exhilerating though!  I was so excited that I got the chance to share with people about Jesus, and that for the most part, they listened!  I was afraid at first that my fear of people would get in the way of me actually having a conversation with people, but God is good and gave me just enough courage and boldness to step out in faith and share.  Praise God!

I love evangelizing now!  When I go home, after I graduate in July, I plan on taking my brother with me to evangelize around my hometown in Pennsylvania.  If God is with me here in Texas, I’m 100% positive He will be with me in PA.

God is good!

“They will know we are Christians by our Love”

“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you , being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height– to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:14-19

This is my prayer for all of our brothers and sisters in India, in the Bridge of Hope centers, in my School of Discipleship class, in the people at Gospel For Asia, and for all of you reading this. That we all would learn to depend on God for everything, because He created us, and knows us and His purpose for us is more than we could ever imagine.

That we all would be rooted and grounded in love so that even if we don’t have any earthly things in common, even if we don’t speak the same language, we still have Christ’s love in us that makes us one body, we are unified in Christ.

And that we would all know the love of Christ that supersedes all knowledge, and to be filled with the fullness of God.

My Story

Dear School of Discipleship seeker or current student,

My whole life I had planned to join the military. I thought that kind of life would have been sweet and lots of fun. I have nothing against the military, but God did completely direct my life to a new direction in life. This just goes to show that we should all be completely open to God’s leading in our life even if it means a change in our future plans.

I had folks thinking I should have gone into the military or gone to college but I wanted to serve the Lord in missions for this is what I strongly sensed our Father calling me to.

I was blessed to have most people and my parents behind me in this calling. But I did have a few folks who didn’t understand what I was doing.

My encouragement for you brothers and sisters who are seeking whether or not you should come here for a year, is to always be open to God’s leading. Don’t be afraid to give up your college and career dreams. Anyways, this is only for one year and for me it was the best year of my life!

For those of you who are just graduating from high school and are planning to go to college or are thinking of it, I’d encourage you to think about giving a year of your life to come do the Gospel For Asia School of Discipleship. Do this for one year and then go to college or wherever the Lord leads.

When you are 60 years old you will not look back at this year in regret thinking it was a wast. One year goes by quick and will be one of the most significant years of your life…it was for me!

The bottom line is, the students after one year of being here know the Lord and His ways so much more. As a result they go out and have a profound impact on those around them, wheather in college, workplace or in missions. and change it for good.

My final encouragement brothers and sisters is to pursue Christ and His leading on your life.

Come here for one year and you will be equipped spiritually to go onto the next step of your life.

You won’t regret spending a year here and at the same time you will reach many people in Asia with the Gospel through the work that you get to be part of. Also you get to visit India and meet some of our brothers and sisters there.

Never forget the precious call of Jesus on your life and what He is really asking of you.

Gospel For Asia Nepal country leader Naryan Sharm told me personally that

“It’s wise to serve the Lord when you’re young!”

Those words have stuck with me ever since and I’d like to pass that onto you too. God bless you. Jesus loves you!

Sharing the Love (with cookies)

On May 16, 2010 My friend and I came up with a crazy idea. We decided to try and bake some cookies then show the love of Christ by giving them to our neigbors. Little did we know the difficulties of baking.

The first batch of cookies we decided to bake on wax paper, after filling the house with smoke, we took them out and they were all burnt. Cooking lesson: Don’t put wax paper in the oven. After many trials and errors we ended up with 2 dozen cookies (out of a possible 6) that were ready to be handed out.

With those two dozen successfully baked cookies, we were able to talk to two of our neighbors. Our plan was to tell them that we were Christians and that Jesus told us to love our neighbors. During the two fairly short conversations and, with the unwanted help of our nervousness, I don’t think our message came across too clearly. Hopefully God helped them to understand. They did take our cookies though and weather or not they ate them I do not know.

The whole experience felt silly, but after it was all said and done it felt good. Who knows maybe we will do it again some time.
